I’ve tried to find a graphic design job (i’m still kind of entry-level) and I’m having no success probably because lack of experience and/or the economy the way it is today. I was thinking of giving freelance a try but not sure where to start? Can anyone give me tips? I have looked into ifreelance.com and I’m not too sure how to work that either…..

That how we started out…www.myspace.com/visualelements
Get a niche going, like specializing in logos, magazines, business card design, etc.
Good luck! We know how hard it is!
You can sign up for Elance. Elance.com has a site where you’ll bid for work with people from all over the world. You’ll need a portfolio to show. If you don’t have real clients, make a portfolio of things you’ve designed. They don’t have to be real paying customers. Show what you can do.
Am worrying that I didnt learn graphic designing!! Yeah opportunities are plenty on freelance sites and you can have better programming work.
I have listed couple of freelance sites listed on my blog and both are very good at service.
Try on them and wish you all the best.

Well – there are many different tracks to take when starting out. You can go the unpaid intern route to gain experience (so you can land a paying fulltime gig) but that’s kinda hard unless you’re still living at home. You can also try the Creative Group, Aquent, and iCreatives. All great temp agencies that deal with just creative folk like us. Keep in mind you will get less in wages through one of these agencies than you would marketing yourself straight to the business world because when you’re working through an agency they take their own cut. So because of that, try to find your own clients through marketing your skills as a paralell effort alongside your temp work. And good luck!!
Hope this helps -
I would try to make some contacts online first. Either through other designers or new clients. Join a forum like http://www.computerartsforum.com and advertise your services.
