I am going into my senior year of high school. Recently, I have gained a passion for art, and wish to pursue with that in my future. I took a photography/graphic design class last year which made me realize this passion. However I have not taken any other art classes other than the required ones in elementary and middle school. My high school offers various art and design classes, but I just realized this passion and there is no room in my schedule now. Is college too late for me to start to learn more about art? I also don’t know yet what field of art I want to go in- I really like design, but I don’t know if I should do graphic, Interior, or fashion. I’m scared if I take classes in college, they will expect me to know basic terms and fundamentals that I won’t know due to my lack of experience. Also, will colleges see that I don’t have experience and be less inclined to except me if I want art as my major? (My grades are good (95s). )
(By the way, if you know of any books that teach drawing and or design techniques(people, fashion, interior etc.) can you please leave me the names and authors?)
Thanks!

i dunno dude. art totally kicks ass tho. if you like it as much as you say you do you should totally do it. maybe you can try and switch some of your classes around? can you do that at your school? just start drawing or taking pictures or whatever you like to do best and start to build a portfolio. art schools like looking at that stuff
College is where you go to learn the basics, too. In fact, even if you are learned already, you still have to take the basic. No one will expect you to know already what you want to learn; else, if you already know, you wouldn’t be going to school but to work. Take as many or what ever art classes you can take in HS. When you start going to college, you’ll be given classes that you need to take to achieved your major. Just try enjoy your college years, and study/work hard. Check the college where you are going and their programs – and classes they offer and require. You can go from there to what kind of materials you can look at to help you.
The only school that wouldn’t accept you based on your lack of experience in art is an art school.
It certainly isn’t too late. Art schools don’t expect you to be a maestro – art school is there to teach you HOW to draw and will be happy to help you with anything you don’t understand. Rather, they look for enthusiasm and promise.
However, you probably want to start drawing in your free time to see if you can develop some skills. Some art schools will expect you to show them a portfolio or examples of your work (especially if you have no art grades), so this is quite important. I don’t know much about fashion or interior design myself, but for figure drawing, I highly recommend any books by Andrew Loomis or Burne Hogarth. They are fantastic.
Here are some websites to help you learn in the meantime (the first one is especially great if you are just starting out with drawing – try working through the lessons.
