I know you can use the circular dot (Alt-8) as a bullet list, but Id like to use my own graphic. Is this possible in InDesign?

Just manually do it by inserting whatever image you want using an image box, then use a text box for your text. You can adjust the leading for your text box to make your text line up with the images.
