I am constantly doing flyers with inDesign and it would be grate to be able print them in black and white for proof, for example. Does anyone knows if this is possible?

If you have acrobat (the real one, not acrobat reader), you can print to PDF’s in grayscale. Monochrome is a different story as it will have to be halftoned to provide the grays; acrobat will generally print them as “plates” that are solid black for burning a screen or plate of a certain ink density.
CutePDF is a sweet solution (requires ghostwriter) that’s free if you don’t want to pay through the nose for adobe acrobat, but i think that “color” or “grayscale” is the only option you get with this package
