Graphic designing has become an indelible process in creating a larger viewer base for each and every company that has found an online address for itself. The look of a website speaks volumes about the company that it represents and believe it or not a so-not-impressive graphic design can make or break the company’s image on the web.

Graphic design is about colors and shapes and images but it is also a lot more. Designing as a practice is long winding and requires loads of creativity and patience to begin with. But it is a generous dose of common sense that actually gives shape to an idea that germinates in a designer’s mind.

Designing is not only filling colors into sketched images. In fact graphic designing is inclusive of incorporating the right layout for the design, positioning of content and images, deciding on image-content ratio per page and setting a framework into which every process fits. The last in itself is a lengthy process.

Some tips to help transform the germ of an idea into a full fledged design:

ü  Understanding the business idea and/or the customer requirements for which the graphics are being designed. Translating your creativity into the language of the customer is the key to success in graphic designing.

ü  Once you have the idea behind the business solution clarified, your job is to give a good thought to what graphics you think will best apply to the website. The best way to do this is to sketch or document all and sundry ideas that find their way into your head.

ü  Graphic designing is not an isolated project and has to work in tandem with the content that explains in words what the graphic does visually. You have all the freedom to experiment in case content has not already been provided.

ü  A well presented webpage is always more attractive than a page that is cramped with a lot of information. Streamline what goes on the page; create a formal layout that you will stick to and work around it.

ü  A graphic should be self explanatory. It may have high artistic value but unless it conveys the message it is purported to, it is a waste of space and creativity.

ü  Patience is the support behind an impressive graphic design. Keep going back to your drafts time and again, you will come with a fresh idea that can lend the ‘it’ factor to your design.

ü  Always get a third party, preferably nonbiased, to take a look at the final draft. A fresh perspective will make you look at your own design more critically and eventually create a better design.

ü  There are as many possible designs for an idea as there are leaves in a tree. Keep working on the themes till you have exhausted all your creative cells. Brainstorming always helps when you are short of ideas.

ü  The feasibility of a particular design has to be checked, so try out your own design before you meet the web programmer. Remember, the graphics should not be heavy and should not take a lot of time to load.

A good graphic design is not only creatively satisfying but also the most effective in generating interest about business. So it is important that you do it right.
