Thanks for this, I am making a poster for my band, I had no Idea where to start in Photoshop, it seems so overwhelming – I am a MS Paint user. Hopefully those days are behind me and I seem to be on a roll now thanks to you.

That sounds like a great idea. When I introduced it to my class, we discussed the conventions of movie posters and examined all of the entries in the Something Awful Photoshop Phriday competition. I’d really like to go through the entries and pin point particular design techniques. Thanks for the feedback!
Great tutorial.
I’d like to have seen more of an introduction to this tutorial (another tutorial?) where you show a lot more grindhouse posters and talk about the common composition techniques and layout styles. Knowing how to do something in photoshop is only half the battle, knowing WHY you’re doing it allows the user to get creative.
