I’ll be starting off my freshman year in the fall and need a laptop. I’m majoring in Graphic Design, and so far I’ve heard that purchasing a Mac is a better call. However, I don’t have a lot of money to be spending just on computer right now and the cheapest Mac on the market is $999. Is that a suitable computer for someone going into the graphic design field?
10 Points for best answer.

The plastic unibody macbook is not all that powerful. It only has 2GB of RAM and a smaller hard drive at only 250GB. The graphics in most mac portables aren’t that great. Then, there is program compatibility. Will the programs you use work with OSX, or will you need windows? You could dual boot, but that’s extra $$$ for a copy of windows. Also, the screen is only 13″ but yet it costs as much as many 15 inchers with windows.
I would definitely weigh my PC options very carefully.
For the same price, you can get a more powerful Windows laptop. Conversely, you can get the same power in a Windows laptop for less money. Buying a Mac is just plain foolish. This isn’t 1985, when Macs were actually better at graphics then Windows PCs were.
LOOK, i am a graphic design student and i have only macbook white and it is horrible and slow…
sometimes i hate using it.. the best is macbook pro.. look for the one that has speed and space…
macbook white is not good for working…
besides.. don’t ever think to buy a windows ps..
look at the quality..
go for macbook pro.. because if you bought a cheap laptop ‘like what i did’ you will regret .
i recommend you to save more money and go to apple store and tell them you are a graphic design student.. ask him for suggestion.
all of my friends and all my art teachers have mac book pro
