I saw this job opening on craigslist and the employer asks for requested hourly rate. How much should I ask for? I have a few years of experience (about 4) in designing for newspapers, magazines, business cards, etc.

Depends on what market you are in. That 43,000 salary would be pretty darned high for only 4 years experience around here. But in a bigger city it would probably be on target.
The average salary for a Junior Graphic Designer in the U.S. with 1 – 4 yrs of experience is $28,280. However, salaries really do vary depending on location and the type of business you work for, among other factors.
Also, according to salary negotiation expert Jack Chapman, you should never put any numbers on the table until the employer has made an initial offer. When it comes to salary negotiation, he says, “Generally, you will want to bump the starting salary up 5-10% or more. But, in the worst case scenario, if they go first, you certainly won’t get less than their initial offer.” You can read more from Chapman here: http://www.payscale.com/resources.aspx?nc=Article_SalaryNeg&src=yahooA
