I see a lot of tutorials that design web pages in Photoshop and some in Illustrator. But will designing the page in Photoshop cause the page to load slower? or does it matter? Is there any advantage for using one over the other? Is InDesign OK to use?

Fundamental difference: Photoshop manipulates individual color pixels within a fixed bitmap
The Answer: They’re both “better”
Dawn, this is a common and frequent question, but Illustrator is NOT a “less expensive” version of Photoshop.
The programs — although very similar due to Adobe’s “convergence” of the programs — are in fact fundamentally different, and therefore should not be considered a “replacement” for each other.
not sure that each user can use a less expensive version of Photoshop such as Adobe Illustrator.”
I think its subjective but I use both of them. Anything that you actually have to design yourself I would use Illustrator because its Vector based images, but when adding in Photographs and roll over images. I draw everything in Illustrator, then throw it in Photoshop to add images and slice it up to get web ready.
Hi,
When I’m creating a page from scratch I find I’m moving things around a lot. Using Layers in photoshop can get a bit confusing. Eespecially when you reach like 20 – 30 layers (i.e. Did I put that cloud on the 16th layer or the 28th layer). It’s the type of thing I just don’t want to deal with mid design stage.
In Illustrator I just click and drag any element I want to move. when I’m happy with the layout I export and add images and such in photoshop.
I use Indesign when I’m creating booklets and documents with lot’s of text. I would stick to illustrator and photoshop for this.
As for the load time? That depends on your Jpeg, Gif, or PNG quality. Lower is faster Higher is prettier.
In Illustrator
Ctrl-G Groups items
Ctrl-2 Locks items Ctrl-Alt-2 Unlocks
Ctrl-3 Hides items Ctrl-Alt-3 Revels hidden items
Have fun!
