When you create an art portfolio should the picture of your work fill the frame?

Posted on November 7th, 2010 by David Montgomery Jr.
I have to create an art portfolio for a graduate program, my undergrad did not require it so it is my first time. I have done a graphic design portfolio but this is different to me. When I take pictures of my work should i have the painting or photograph fill the entire frame or have it up against a background hanging against a white or black wall? Thank you so much.

Are there any masters programs for graphic design where you don’t need a portfolio to apply?

Posted on November 1st, 2010 by David Montgomery Jr.
I know you do not need a portfolio for Miami Ad school. Are there any other school like it? Perhaps in the NY area, or upper eastcoast? Is there a site where I can find these school listed? I’m lost. Let me clarify, are there any schools that help you get a portfolio together, for people who have not graduated from art schools. I am already taking continuing education classes to try and build a portfolio. Which I love, but will not help towards a degree (which my parents do not understand- taking classes but not earning a degree).…

What do I include? How do I present it? Like in a file or straight off my sketchbook. What types of sketches do I need? Do I need to show them my multimedia work such as graphic design and websites I’ve made as well? Do I have to include photography.

Any good website for graphic design projects?

Posted on October 26th, 2010 by David Montgomery Jr.
I want to find graphic design projects to do for my own use and to build a professional portfolio. Is there any good website that lists some professional graphic design projects which I can undertake to build my portfolio? It’s like I’m finding a good source of assignments for me to do as homework. I know I can build a portfolio just by designing what I want but I’m the kind of person who needs guidelines to get stuff done, so that’s why I’m looking for a good source.

Portfolio question for BA Graphic Design admission?

Posted on October 16th, 2010 by David Montgomery Jr.
As mentioned in the question, I have applied for a BA in Graphic Design and have received answers in which I am asked for a portfolio on a CD. Some of the universities have some specific requirements, such as creating a Powerpoint slide show. Do any of you know any link to an example of a powerpoint portfolio presentation? I have searched for some, but have only found professional looking portfolios on websites. For example: “Please include a written commentary about your folio.” Should that be written inside the powerpoint presentation or in a word document? Image…
