If I get a bachelors in graphic design, would I be able to do illustration jobs?

Posted on March 1st, 2010 by brian2 shouts
I’m 19 and trying to decide my school major. My main skills are with graphic design, so it would be the best idea to go for that. But I would really like to make money doing illustration and/or cartoons. Maybe a storyboard artist, cartoon illustrator or something like that. Would I need a degree in illustration for that? I have no life drawing or painting skills, I can just draw different cartoon styles. So I am looking for advice on what to do Image taken on 2008-03-19 19:56:37. Image Source. (Used with permission)

Im a freelance artist and a business I work with sent me a mail today and asked if I would like to put some of my existing illustrations on the company site (its an online image site that sells wallpapers and such) for a licensing royalty of 20%. The message on the completed design poster says, “Inspiration doesn’t just come to you; you have to create inspiration.” So even though some very talented artists might make drawing and painting look easy, the Graphic Design industry is very different and really doesn’t have much to do with art at all. The brainstorming and thought process…

Starting a Career in Illustration?

Posted on January 23rd, 2010 by brianone shout
What can I do to start a career as an illustrator when it comes to getting my name out to publishers? I already have a growing portfolio and my artwork on the internet. I’m more looking toward children’s illustration and book cover design as opposed to entirely freelance artist work. Image taken on 2007-04-11 18:55:14. Image Source. (Used with permission)

Can a person w/ a degree in Graphic Design get a job in Illustration and visa versa?

Posted on January 22nd, 2010 by brian2 shouts
I know, I know, this is a stupid question. I’m just torn between whether I should get a degree in Graphic Design or Illustration as I’m equally passionate in both. Right now I’m majoring in graphic design and lovin’ it but what if I graduate and want to to do illustrating for a bit? Would I be screwed? Image taken on 2007-04-23 19:19:09. Image Source.
