Use Photoshop or Illustrator for logo design?

I have been using Photoshop for almost three years now and am very familiar with it, but recently I have been given the job of creating a website as well as a logo for a company. I wanted to use Illustrator for a vector-based logo, but I do not understand it as well enough as Photoshop.
