When you create an art portfolio should the picture of your work fill the frame?

I have to create an art portfolio for a graduate program, my undergrad did not require it so it is my first time. I have done a graphic design portfolio but this is different to me. When I take pictures of my work should i have the painting or photograph fill the entire frame or have it up against a background hanging against a white or black wall? Thank you so much.

Portfolio question for BA Graphic Design admission?

As mentioned in the question, I have applied for a BA in Graphic Design and have received answers in which I am asked for a portfolio on a CD. Some of the universities have some specific requirements, such as creating a Powerpoint slide show. Do any of you know any link to an example of a powerpoint portfolio presentation? I have searched for some, but have only found professional looking portfolios on websites. For example: “Please include a written commentary about your folio.” Should that be written inside the powerpoint presentation or in a word document? Image…
